IMPACT CASE STUDY:
SOLD! Who Broke the Australian Dream?
At Wedge-Tail Pictures, we see documentaries as catalysts for conversations and change. Alongside our films, we design and deliver impact campaigns that connect audiences, advocates and decision-makers around issues explored on screen. Our partners use our film to achieve campaign goals.

Our feature documentary SOLD! Who Broke the Australian Dream? is one example of how a film can move beyond broadcast to spark national conversation. During early production of our film we identified tax reform as one key area of housing policy that could benefit from a concerted impact campaign. Before the film's release we worked collaboratively with partner organisations who were aligned with our goals.
After trending on Binge and Foxtel and receiving widespread media coverage online, on TV and radio, the film moved into free national impact screenings where the response from audiences has been strong: average ratings of 4.8/5, with half of participants reporting a change in perspective on housing, and snowballing interest in promoting the film, hosting discussions and backing reform efforts.

A major milestone was a special Parliament House screening hosted by Senator David Pocock and Senator Barbara Pocock, the ABC's Alan Kohler, featuring presenter Mark Humphries, director Bill Code and Everybody’s Home’s Maiy Azize, placing the housing crisis directly in front of federal policymakers. The film has since been used by crossbench independents, including David Pocock and Helen Haines at the federal level, plus support from state agencies and local councils, with screenings and panels playing a key role in keeping housing and tax reform firmly on the political agenda.

This impact has only been possible through the support of the investors who shared this mission. Many screenings have been generously co-hosted by the Everybody’s Home umbrella campaign, Shelter, Tenants’ Unions, SACOSS, QShelter, QCOSS, Voices For Indi, House You, and more, strengthening our reach and ensuring the film lands directly where it matters most. We thank these partners for their leadership and collaboration. Together we’re amplifying voices, building pressure, and pushing for a fairer housing future for all. We have more impact events planned in 2026 across the country so please keep an eye out and contact hello@wedgetailpictures.com for more information.

"I left wanting to take action"
“ I will be discussing this with my friends and family. Hopefully further discussion in our community can get a ground swell reaction that can be heard in Canberra”
""Smart, funny and devastating — exactly what Australia needs."
"SOLD! gave language to what we’ve been feeling."
